Wolfforth family launches pickle business after losing two sons

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Jeff and Mahriah Dickson, who lost their sons; Brendon in July and Blake in November, are turning to their community for support.

The couple has started Dickson Avenue Pickles to help cover funeral expenses and honor their boys.

The idea for the pickle business came during Thanksgiving, while they were cleaning out Blake’s house. Among his belongings was a street sign reading “Dickson Ave,” which inspired the name for their new venture.

“That’s why we do it or we wouldn’t want to get out of bed. We want everything to just stop. We want to grieve but every day – but we wake up every day, realizing people do rely on us,” Mahriah said.

Since launching the business, the Dicksons have raised $1,000 from pickle sales and over $13,000 through GoFundMe. The family hopes to raise enough to bury Brendon and Blake by Christmas. Then they plan to use the funds to support other families facing similar tragedies.

“We just wanted that for our kids, to have a place we could go and see their name or face,” Mahriah said.

Despite their loss, the Dicksons continue to push forward for their 17 children and their community.
