Barboza Jr. Dismisses Catterall’s Skills: “He’s Just A Lefty”
#1 WBO ranked light welterweight contender Arnold Barboza Jr. told #2 Jack Catterall that if there’s going to be a stoppage in their fight, it’s going to be him that is doing it in their February 15th headliner at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester, England.
Barboza Jr. (31-0, 11 KOs) seemed pretty confident, telling Catterall (30-1, 13 KOs) how limited he is as a fighter and the only thing he has going for him is being a Southpaw.
Is Catterall a Shakur Copy?
Catterall can’t punch and is viewed as the ‘British Shakur‘ by some fans view about him. He’s like a knock-off version of Shakur Stevenson once you remove the hand speed, reflexes, and movement. You can see a lot of the Newark, New Jersey native in Catterall, 31, but it’s an imperfect imitation, like a replica where errors were made in creating the copy.
This fight could be a mismatch like Barboza Jr’s recent victories over Jose Ramirez, Sean McComb, and Jose Pedraza. He looked like 24k gold in those fights, dominating his opposition.
“He can say that [Jose] Ramirez was past his best, and I can say that about half the victories that he had,” said Arnold Barboza Jr. to Jack Catterall during their Face Off Live on DAZN, talking about their February 15th fight.
“Linares retired after that. Regis was going to retire after that fight. Josh Taylor had a messed-up knee. He can say whatever he wants. I don’t think he’s never faced anyone like me. He’s going to find out on February 15th. If there’s going to be a stoppage, it’s going to be me stopping him.
“We’re going to see. I’m overall better than him than anything. Everything, everything,” said Barboza Jr. about his belief that he does everything better than Catterall. “The only thing that makes you different is you’re a lefty. That’s it. You’re average. You’re not better than Alex Saucedo.
Catterall doesn’t have the power to be a regular fighter who stands and trades with his opponents. To win this fight against Barboza Jr., Jack would need to have more of Shakur’s skills. What we saw in his last two wins against Regia Prograis and Josh Taylor won’t be enough.
“You’re not better than Ramirez. You’re not better than Mike Reed. My conditioning is top-notch. You’ll see. I can stay, I can brawl, I can box, I can do it all. I’m an overall better fighter. People don’t know what they’re going to get when it comes to me because I can do it all. He’s going to find out,” said Barboza Jr.
