Canelo Vs. Jake “Done Deal” For Cinco De Mayo On May 3rd?

Canelo Alvarez vs. Jake Paul is reportedly a “done deal” for Cinco de Mayo, which will occur on May 3rd in Las Vegas at either the Allegiant Stadium or the T-Mobile Arena. It still hasn’t been made official, but it’s said to be done.

Done Deal?

Cynthia Conte reports hearing that the Canelo-Paul fight is a done deal. She didn’t say the weight because that’s a hurdle to overcome.

Jake (11-1, 7 KOs) is a cruiserweight. He weighed 227 pounds when he last fought at heavyweight against Mike Tyson on November 15th last year. If Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) insists on the fight taking place at 175 pounds or lower, Paul would have to drop a lot of weight, likely leaving him too emaciated to fight.

Yesterday, it was reported that Canelo vs. Terence Crawford is now off. No explanation was given, but it’s rumored that Turki Al-Sheikh didn’t want to stage their event in 2025 and have it bring in much lower numbers than the Canelo-Paul event.

Social Media Muscle

Jake is much better known than Terence Crawford due to his 27.7 million Instagram followers and 20.8 YouTube subscribers. In comparison, Crawford has 2 million Instagram followers. Do the math.

If you’re Canelo, would you rather fight a guy like Crawford, where you’re going to be the one bringing all the attention to the fight due to your millions of fans, or would you rather face Jake Paul, who is arguably more popular on social media?

Money Talks

When you add to that the fact that Crawford is expected to follow the Mayweather blueprint by boxing & moving for 12 rounds, it’s a no-brainer that Alvarez would select Jake as his next opponent. Canelo will not receive credit for fighting either of them, but at least in the case of Jake, he’s going to make so much money that it’s worth getting roasted by fans.
