Ennis And Stanionis Face Off: Awkward Trash Talk Before Welterweight Clash

Jaron Ennis and Eimantas Stanionis met for their first face-off today to promote their welterweight unification clash in two months on April 12th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. You could tell from listening to them that they’re not used to trash-talking and are uncomfortable with it.

If Boots (33-0, 29 KOs) loses this fight, he’s never going to hear the end of it from fans because he recently turned down a massive career payday to challenge Vergil Ortiz Jr. for his WBC interim junior middleweight title. He wanted to stay at 147.

WBA champion Stanionis (15-0, 9 KOs) is a big puncher and can do a lot of damage if he lands as often as Ennis’ last opponent, Karen Chukhadzhian, in their fight on November 9th last year.

Face-off Fizzle

Ennis tried his best to intimidate Stanionis, but it wasn’t working. It came across like a playground argument. It was amusing to watch while it lasted.

Boots: “Do you want to bet your purse?

Stanionis: “I’m not a betting person.”

Boots: “It’s coming home with me, though.”

Stanionis: “No, it’s not.”

Boots: “That’s with me.”

Stanionis: “We’ll see soon.”

Boots: “You seen weakness, huh?”

Stanionis: “We all have flaws. We are all not perfect, and you know that. We all make mistakes.”

Ennis: “Just don’t make none on fight night.”

Stanionis: “Yeah, you too.”
