Fortnite OG bots appear to be invading games, and players want them gone

With the permanent return of Fortnite OG, players are calling on Epic Games to remove the apparent influx of bots from the old-school game mode. OG has made a return to Fortnite alongside the brand-new Chapter 6, and while the hit of nostalgia has been going down well for most, player reports have been flooding in that appear to showcase bots playing a prevalent part in matches. Many players are saying this now makes Fortnite OG far too easy, while asking Epic to either rebalance their involvement or remove them entirely.

In a recent Twitter/X post, the official Fortnite account says “Duos now live in Fortnite OG,” while it adds “We’ve also made matchmaking improvements in all Fortnite OG playlists.” In isolation, this feels pretty normal, as Epic has added duos to the battle royale game’s OG mode and made some matchmaking changes. The comments of the post are a different story, however, with players and content creators alike debating the addition of bots to OG.

Bots have always existed in Fortnite, but their apparent addition to OG has upset a lot of the playerbase. The official Fortnite Battle Royale subreddit is filled with videos of players complaining about what appear to be bots in matches. In the videos, these bots play incredibly slow, sluggish, and without any sort of player awareness. They also appear to run around in lobbies in a long, straight line. The main complaint I’ve been reading from players is how much easier bots make OG matches, while also taking the thrill out of surviving against an entire lobby and coming out on top.

Not all Fortnite OG players are seeing such a large influx of bots, however, which could suggest that higher-ranked SBMM (skill-based matchmaking) players have fewer bots in a match. As of writing Epic Games hasn’t acknowledged the use of bots in OG or how they work, so keep that in mind, but they are present in other game modes.

According to tracking site Fortnite.gg, the OG game mode has already peaked at a staggering 1.3 million concurrent users, with around 600,000 in the game mode right now. So even if there are bots, OG has already proved that it’s big enough to support plenty of full lobbies.
