Jake Paul Blasts Canelo Alvarez: “He Ducked Me And Is Now An Owned Slave”

Jake Paul roasted Canelo Alvarez today, saying he “ducked” him and is now an “owned slave” following his decision to sign a four-fight deal with Turki Al-Sheikh’s Riyadh Season. Canelo will NOT be fighting Jake (11-1, 7 KOs), which is a self-defeating move because their event would have brought in huge numbers on Netflix.

Turki only revealed one of the four fights for Canelo, and the names that were mentioned in two of the other fights are nothing special. David Benavidez is not one of the options for Canelo, and that’s the one that boxing fans want to see.

Ducking Jake?

Paul, 28, says he views himself as the “new face of” boxing, and he could be right in the U.S. His fight with Mike Tyson on November 15th last year was seen by 108 million viewers globally.

Mike Coppinger revealed today the two possibilities for Canelo’s May 4th fight are Jermall Charlo and Bruno Surace. Those names won’t draw much interest from fans. Jermell is 35, rarely fights and looked terrible in his last two performances against Jose Benavidez Jr. in 2023 and Juan Macias Montiel in 2021.

Canelo’s second fight of his four-fight deal will be against Terence Crawford, who is coming up to 168 for a one-off, before returning to 154 or retiring. This fight will be a circus-level match, just like the Mexican star’s title defense against former undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo in 2023. That was a total mismatch because Jermall was too thin, weak, and unwilling to stand and fight Canelo once he felt his power.

It’s still possible that Canelo could fight Jake Paul once his four-fight deal with Turki is completed. He’ll be in the same situation as now, needing big-name opponents, and there aren’t any at 168 for him to fight. If Canelo isn’t going to face Benavidez, Jake is the only option for a massive payday unless Turki wants to offer him a new deal.
