Jana Kramer Says Being ‘Angry’ at Coparent Mike Caussin Does ‘Nothing’
Jana Kramer has learned to put any bitterness toward ex-husband Mike Caussin to rest if it means creating an amicable coparenting arrangement for their kids.
“It’s not an easy journey, but being angry does nothing for anybody,” Kramer, 41, exclusively told Us Weekly at iHeartRadio 102.7 KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball on Friday, December 6. “It doesn’t do anything for me. I want everyone to get along, and at the end of the day, the kids are the most important things to all of us.”
Kramer and Caussin, 37, were married between 2015 and 2021. Together, they share daughter Jolie, 8, and son Jace, 5. (Kramer later welcomed son Roman in November 2023 with husband Allan Russell.)
“I don’t have to like him, but I would like for us all to be able to coparent well,” Kramer, wearing a Revolve look with glam by Emma Willis, told Us on Friday. “Our relationship now is better than our marriage ever was. That’s because we’ve collectively been able to put the past in the past and really focus on the present and our kids.”
She added, “I don’t have time to be angry. I don’t have time to stew. I could hate him, but for what? Like, why? That only does damage to the kids.”
Kramer also praised Russell, 43, for being “amazing” in making sure all parties get along. (Russell, a Scottish soccer coach, also coparents a teenage son with a past partner.)
“I think it’s important,” Russell said on Friday, joining Kramer on the red carpet. “You’re never going to make everyone happy in a coparenting situation. It’s just recognizing the fact that it’s never going to be perfect but everyone does their best.”
Kramer and Russell got married in July, several months after Roman was born.
“We’ve got each other’s backs,” Russell, who wore an outfit from AllSaints and Prada to the music festival, gushed about what makes their relationship special. “And that fact that she’s ridiculously beautiful and the most beautiful woman on this planet. We know that we’re there for each other. We always want what is best for each other.”
Kramer concurred, noting that she has and receives so much respect from her spouse.
“There’s so much trust and safety in that. I’ve never felt that before, which is nice,” she said, calling married life “beautiful and amazing.”
While Kramer and Russell have settled into their new everyday routines, the One Tree Hill alum is presently ruling out another baby.
“I would love to, but I don’t think I could, given the losses that I’ve had in the past and just how hard this pregnancy was on my body this go around,” Kramer told Us, referring to her previous miscarriages. “I think we were blessed with a very healthy and happy baby. Though I would love to, and I’ve been trying to convince him, I just don’t know if my body can handle another one. If God has other plans, we’ll see, but for now, it’s a no.”
The iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour special airs on ABC Wednesday, December 18, at 8 p.m. ET and streams the next day on Hulu.
